BIG PINEY/MARBLETON RECREATION CENTER INFO

A citizens group comprised of Big Piney and Marbleton residents worked with the Sublette County Commissioners and the town councils to find a way to build a Recreation Center, a facility that would not only benefit young and old alike but would also meet the needs of a community which is growing in both size and dynamics.

The County along with the towns of Big Piney and Marbleton purchased the land and the County funded the architectural designs for the facility. The design was done by Chambers Design and Build of Sublette County. The project is multidimensional facility featuring two gymnasiums, a rock-climbing wall, a suspended walking track, racquetball courts, meeting space, a teen area, a dance/yoga room, a multipurpose room a bowling alley and a movie theatre.

The estimated cost is $18,297,396.30. Contractors have bid on the project and if the tax passes construction can begin in the spring of 2009.

The most immediate community need that will be met by the BP/Marbleton Recreation Center is in the area of  after school programs. The Rec Center will provide a safe, positive, active environment for children who are currently in need of a facility with supervised activities. It will allow families to enjoy an activity out of the house whether it is bowling, a game of hoops or challenging each other to racket ball.

Additionally, all local residents can enjoy indoor recreational activities throughout the year leading to an increase in physical fitness and greater health for the community as a whole.

It will also stabilize Sublette County recreation in the Big Piney/Marbleton area by taking the responsibility of organizing extra curricular sports from the hands of parent volunteers into a unified entity with more resources.
